Folded Space – foam inserts to board game Accessories & Upgrades

All done - after drying for some time you are ready to get your game organized

There is something very therapeutic about organizing your things, and organizing board games specifically inside the game with inserts has the same effect for me.
I first thought about making the inserts myself but quickly realized I would not have the patience or time to do this for several games. So I wanted to find inserts that are affordable, lightweight, durable and easy to put together for my games.

I can’t remember how I found them, but Folded Space (@Folded__Space) has just was I was looking for at least on paper. Unfortunately they hadn’t made inserts for many games (they had a Kickstarter to help them get started), when I bought the first one. Now they actually have quite a little selection, and it seems to be growing fast.

So I wanted to test with a single insert (before buying more); Agricola was the chosen one 😀

Instructions were clear and simple on the sheet provided. I wished it included some real pictures of how the insert should be put together, but I found those on the website. A few more in detail could have been nice for some of the more tight fit boxes.
The inserts are really easy to put together, you just have to be a bit careful when punching some of the thinner pieces. And after your first one, it’s comes natural to put together.

I recommend at least the first times to put everything together to see where everything goes before using glue. I hoped I could avoid using glue, but it is needed. Using a small brush to put on the glue makes a cleaner look.

Lightweight & still durable

I really like that the inserts are made of foam core, which keeps the weight down. The board game components on it’s own already weighs enough. With the help of the glue it seems to glue very tight and seamless; which makes the boxes every durable and strong.

Small issues

I have only minor things. They have their logo on the sides, and yet it’s mostly possible to hide it, you can see it sometimes. My problem is not only there is a logo, but that it’s just pieces of the logo; I would prefer a whole logo and not just something that looks like mistakes. In very rare instances I had not been able to hide the broken logo inside the boxes.

With my Dinosaur Island inserts; I bought 2, I had the issue that it seemed like one on the layer had slid and therefore making most of the cutting edges diagonal – therefore not seamless put together but with gaps. Contacted them and we found a solution, so customer service is also tested.

Some of the boxes have a higher box lift than I would like, and I had the situation with Agricola, where it said there was no box lift. The benefits are still better with having an insert. In some of the boxes where it’s more tightly fit, there can be a bit of a challenge fitting everything.
